GFA Youth Celebrate International Youth Day by Serving
In honor of International Youth Day, numerous members of GFA World’s youth fellowships set out to serve their communities. In one region, more than 400 people were helped as youth teams from multiple churches spread out to engage their local communities, rendering aid in various ways.
Youth distributed masks to the homeless, cooked and distributed meals, cleaned streets and delivered food packets. The young men and women also distributed literature telling of Christ’s love. Altogether, the teams distributed 205 masks and provided food for 217 people in need.
Navin, a grateful beneficiary, was impressed by the young people’s efforts.
“Nowadays, youth are crazy [over] smartphones and social media,” Navin commented, “but these church youth are totally different. They are cleaning the street in order to help us. I am so thankful to the church pastor who is teaching them to help society.”
Helping the community brought joy to the youth who participated, including Naida.
“I was seeking a chance to do something for the community in this pandemic, but could not do it [alone],” Naida said. “I am thankful to the [church], who makes our dream come true.”
Youth Journey Miles to Offer Relief
In another area, GFA World youth distributed vegetable kits. This distribution followed a week of prayer as the youth fellowship sought how to best help those in need during the pandemic. The team transported vegetable kits, which included potatoes, tomatoes, onions, gourds, chilis and oil, more than seven miles by foot to reach a remote village with 27 families in need.
Peony, 65, was grateful the team traveled the distance to bring aid.
“I am really happy and thankful for this kind help,” Peony said, “because it is hard for me to go to the long distance (around 12 kilometers for market) in my old age and purchase things.”
Keifer, another recipient, was also in need. He has no family support.
“This timely help will be unforgettable for me, which is the demonstration of God’s true love,” Keifer said.
Ulric, a 50-year-old believer in the local church, was impressed by the example set by the youth.
“I am really blessed with the living witness of our church youths, who stand for Christ and [are] also ministering [to] His people,” Ulric said.
These young people, and others, are setting an example of service to the community around them. Despite their youth, these youth fellowship members are sharing Christ’s love and hope with those in need.
“Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” —1 Timothy 4:12
